I’ve been getting better at knitting and I’m so so excited about that, but before I can do more advanced things, I need more supplies. So, I was wondering if any of you awesome knitters could point me towards any kits/sets that have all the needles, including dpns and circulars, that I would need to make whatever my heart desires. Only requirement is that it’s not expensive. Thanks!

  1. When I was first starting out, I was able to find bamboo sets on Ebay for a reasonable price – straights and DPNs. Now, I mostly use circulars for nearly everything. What you may want to consider is a set of interchangeable needles (I have a Knit Picks set that I adore). It looks expensive at the outset, but when you stop to think what you get and the convenience of it, it’s a really good deal. I have never regretted getting them. ๐Ÿ™‚

Incidentally, Knit Picks has a lot of great tools for reasonable prices (and free shipping if you spend $50). I REALLY love that site.

  2. lol nope, can’t help. Now, if price was no object, I could. ๐Ÿ™‚

When I first started really knitting, I got a set of Denise interchangeable needles, which can be used for circulars, or straights, and with a bit of back and forth, dpns. But they are inexpensive for a reason, and soon I realized I needed an upgrade. I still have what remains of them and I have another partial set that I inherited. I would be thrilled to ship them to you so that you could use them while you save your money for good needles. They will encourage you to do so post haste. ๐Ÿ™‚ If you would like them (for free) just email me at salpal1 (at) earthlink (dot) net with your mailing info and I will send them. I am not sure that between the two sets I have a complete set, but certainly, it is close. And they do work, they just aren’t as smooth as other choices.

Then, start saving. You will get lots of recommendations for good equipment, I am sure. I personally love Addi turbo needles, and buy them in pairs so I don’t need to buy DPNs. It takes time to build a set (as in years later, I am still building), but worth the expense.

    • THANK YOU so so much! I Just ordered a fairly cheap set from eBay. I feel like you’re cringing at the word “cheap” haha, but trust me, this is temporary. I’m an avid crocheter, but knitting has always been a challenge, so while I’m still learning and practicing, I think these will work. In the meantime, I’m sure I’ll be developing a wishlist of better quality supplies. ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Not cringing – I have been there! Also, until you find what you like, you don’t want to spend a fortune. Anyway, if you ever do want them, just let me know.
